Praia Mole, on the east side of the island, is the go-to spot, buzzing with beautiful gay men and a party-hard atmosphere that lasts from sunrise to sunset. Attribute it to the Dutch influence, starting with Dutch West India Company control in 1636. It’s best to keep public displays of affection discreet, especially outside of the resorts, to ensure a comfortable and respectful experience.
Where to stay:The St.
Regis Bora Bora Resort is a top choice, offering stunning overwater villas with private pools, exceptional service, and direct access to the lagoon. In St. Barts, gay discrimination is banned, and gay marriage has been legal since 2013.
Aruba
The Dutch colonized island recognizes same-sex marriages performed in the Netherlands, but not elsewhere.
Cupecoy Beach is also a popular LGBTQ+ beach with limestone cliffs and natural bays for a little privacy.
St. Martin / Saint Maarten
It’s probably not surprising that St. Martin is somewhat progressive when it comes to LGBTQ+ rights (such as anti-discrimination laws) because the island was colonized by the French and Dutch.
